Querries can be modified to exclude certain categories. Currently this isn’t built in with the theme. The password protection actually is implemented to the page which is listing the portfolio items.
If you can contact a developer these can be implemented.
Currently to exclude certain categories you’ll need to have them in different parent categories.
eg.
Client 1 ( Category )
– portfolio 1 ( sub cat )
– portfolio 2
Client 2 ( Category )
– portfolio 3 ( sub cat )
– portfolio 4
– portfolio 5
You can build a page using portfolio template that lists all of the child categories of Client 2 by select Client 2 category. This lists the category plus child categories under it. It will isolate CLient 1 category and it’s siblings.
